ENHANCING SAFETY

Commissioner Dunn’s commitment to bolstering public safety in Lauderhill is evident in her decisive actions. She voted to ensure that the Lauderhill Police Department received the necessary resources, leading to them being fully staffed for the first time. This has resulted in more boots on the ground to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents.
Melissa’s lobbying efforts led to the acquisition of ShotSpotter technology — an advanced system that triangulates the location of gunshots and instantly notifies the police. This has significantly enhanced the department’s responsiveness to gun-related incidents.
The Peace in Lauderhill Campaign and the accompanying Lauderhill Walk for Peace further underscore her dedication to curbing gun violence and fostering a safe environment for all residents.

BOOSTING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Commissioner Dunn’s Target Market and Small Business Enterprise (SBE) certification programs have provided local businesses unprecedented access to city and county government contracts, thereby fostering economic development.
The Lauderhill Shines initiative, in its multiple cohorts, has empowered entrepreneurs, further solidifying Lauderhill’s reputation as a hub for business growth.
Partnering with regional giants through the South Florida Anchor Alliance, she has harnessed multi-billion-dollar spending power to enhance the local economy

LOWER TAXES

Commissioner Dunn has been instrumental in advocating for fiscal responsibility in Lauderhill. She voted to lower the city’s millage rate from 8.9 to 8.1, contributed to a 5% reduction in the Fire Fee, and ensured that the Debt Millage decreased by approximately 5%. This marks the third consecutive year of lowered taxes in Lauderhill under her leadership.
Additionally, she secured significant funds for Lauderhill’s growth, including the Health & Human Services (HHS) COVID Health Literacy Grant ($3.8 Million) and the Health Foundation of South Florida capacity building grant ($341,054) to help enhance services without straining Lauderhill’s budget.

EMPOWERING EDUCATION

Lauderhill Youth Excel stands out as a flagship program, guiding 50 students in its first cohort towards STEM careers, showcasing her commitment to bridging the educational divide.
Collaborative grants like the National League of Cities Youth Excel Grant ($150,000) further amplify her mission to empower youth.

IMPROVING HEALTHCARE ACCESS

The Lauderhill Health and Prosperity Partnership (LHPP), with backing from prestigious institutions, targets core social determinants of health, ensuring a comprehensive approach to community wellness.
The LHPP Health Symposium and Community Resource Fair act as vital platforms for discussing health strategies and connecting residents with critical resources.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

Pioneering initiatives like Plastic Free Lauderhill, which banned single-use plastics and balloon releases on city property, are tangible demonstrations of her commitment to ecological responsibility.
Her advocacy has also played a significant role in the preservation of precious green spaces, evident in the resolution upholding the covenant to protect the Lauderhill Golf Course from development.
